In-game description

A pyromancy discovered from
the Dark of the Abyss by a pyromancer
who wandered into Oolacile.
Conjure a great black flame in one's palm.

Black flames are weighty, and inflict
physical damage, enough to smack away
the mightiest of shields.

Lower Chasm of the Abyss

  1. From the Township Dungeon bonfire, enter the Chasm and progress past the opening Bloathead group to the Humanity Phantom caves.
  2. Reach the area around Sif's rescue passage and the lift shortcut to Royal Wood. Return to the nearby prism-stone route leading farther down into the Chasm.
  3. Take the descending branch by the green prism stone and keep to the right wall. Defeat or draw aside the three Humanity Phantoms guarding the corpse at the far end and collect Black Flame.
  • The Humanity Phantoms damage you on contact. A light source helps distinguish the path edges from open drops.

Notes

  • Requirements and charges: Has no Intelligence or Faith requirement. Uses 1 attunement slot and provides 8 charges per attuned copy before equipment modifiers.
  • Casting tool: Cast with a Pyromancy Flame. Its reinforcement determines Magic Adjustment; Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Faith do not increase its spell power. Dexterity can affect the casting speed of some offensive spells, separately from damage.
  • DLC and achievements: Included in the Artorias of the Abyss content bundled with Remastered. This DLC spell is not required for its school's original all-spells achievement.
  • Split damage: The contact deals physical and fire damage, not magic damage or a separate Dark damage type. Both components use the Pyromancy Flame's spell power; Strength and Dexterity do not become damage-scaling stats for it.
  • Guard pressure: Drains more blocking stamina and deals more poise damage than Great Combustion. This makes it useful against a raised shield, but does not guarantee every guard will break in one hit.
  • Range: A close-range hand burst. It does not launch a long-range black fireball.
