In-game description

Standard pyromancy of the Great Swamp.
Hurl fireball.

The fire damage caused by fireballs makes
them effective against corporeal beasts and
Undead, who by nature fear flame.

Where to find

Starting spell

Northern Undead Asylum

Requirements

  • Choose Pyromancer at character creation.
  1. This class begins with the spell. Collect its casting tool along the tutorial route, then attune the spell at a bonfire before using it.

Merchant purchase

Firelink Shrine

Cost: 800 Souls · Stock: 1

Requirements

  • Rescue Laurentius and keep him alive and at Firelink.
  1. Enter the Depths with the key from the Capra Demon. Pass the butcher's kitchen and enter the side room filled with barrels, near the second butcher.
  2. Roll through the barrel holding Laurentius instead of swinging a weapon at him. Speak to him, then return to Firelink Shrine and find him seated beside the lower ruins.
  3. Tell him you do not find pyromancy unsavory and open his shop. If he later asks where you learned advanced pyromancy, decline to tell him if you want to keep him at Firelink.
  4. Buy Fireball from Laurentius of the Great Swamp's spell inventory.

Merchant purchase

Blighttown swamp

Cost: 800 Souls · Stock: 1

Requirements

  • Make Quelana appear and speak to her before killing the Bed of Chaos.
  • Keep her alive and complete purchases before she finishes her quest and departs.
  1. Upgrade a Pyromancy Flame to at least +10 with Laurentius or Eingyi. Return to the swamp before defeating the Bed of Chaos and find the woman seated against a stone pillar near the approach to Quelaag's mound.
  2. Speak to Quelana to establish the encounter and open her shop. Her appearance threshold is +10, not the +15 needed to ascend a flame.
  3. Keep Laurentius at Firelink by declining his later request for the source of your advanced pyromancy if you still need his services.
  4. Buy Fireball from Quelana of Izalith's spell inventory.

Notes

  • Requirements and charges: Has no Intelligence or Faith requirement. Uses 1 attunement slot and provides 8 charges per attuned copy before equipment modifiers.
  • Casting tool: Cast with a Pyromancy Flame. Its reinforcement determines Magic Adjustment; Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Faith do not increase its spell power. Dexterity can affect the casting speed of some offensive spells, separately from damage.
  • Shop stock: Each listed stock is the number of spell copies in that inventory, not the number of casts. Buying a second copy can provide another charge pool if you have the slots to attune it.
  • Fire projectile: Throws an arcing fireball that bursts when it hits a target or scenery. Its eight base charges offer more attempts than the stronger fireball variants.
  • Aiming: The arc and limited travel distance matter. Lock-on does not guarantee a hit against a moving target or one behind a low wall.
