Weapon behavior

The opening one-handed strong attack thrusts, while light attacks slash. It has no built-in bleed. In the right hand it works as an ordinary attacking dagger, but the special parry is a left-hand action.

Reinforcement and comparison

Requires 5 Strength and 14 Dexterity and weighs 0.5. On the normal path, physical damage scales much more strongly with Dexterity than Strength. Its base grades are E Strength and B Dexterity.

Normal reinforcement reaches +15. Normal, Raw and Crystal versions can use resins and weapon-enchantment spells. Magic and Enchanted versions add Intelligence scaling to magical damage; Divine and Occult use Faith. Magical and elemental versions cannot receive those temporary weapon coatings.

Where to find

Corpse pickup

New Londo Ruins

Requirements

  • Reach Firelink Shrine.
  • Have a way to damage ghosts if you intend to fight them.
  1. At Firelink Shrine, take the stairs down past the Fire Keeper and ride the lift to New Londo Ruins. Follow the stairs to the waterfront and the wooden bridges. Break the pot containing a corpse before the first bridge for two Transient Curses.
  2. Cross the wooden bridges and use a Transient Curse before fighting the ghosts. Climb the stone stairs beyond the first pair of ghosts, then follow the raised route into the first building. Retreat onto the approach to separate the ghosts that emerge through the walls.
  3. Work through that building to the spiral stairs going down. At the bottom, walk straight ahead onto the short dead-end ledge. Kill the ghost guarding the corpse, then loot the corpse for Parrying Dagger.
  4. Return by the same stairs. You do not need to drain New Londo, obtain the Lordvessel or defeat the Four Kings for this pickup.
  • The ledges have open edges. Ghosts can attack through walls and floors, so a doorway does not make a safe place to stop.

Notes

  • Requirements and scaling: Requires 5 Strength and 14 Dexterity and weighs 0.5. On the normal path, physical damage scales much more strongly with Dexterity than Strength. Its base grades are E Strength and B Dexterity.
  • Left-hand parry: Equip it in the left hand and use the strong input to parry. Its specialized parry gives a longer active window than an ordinary shield parry. The left-hand light input attacks; it does not raise a shield.
  • Blocking tradeoff: Replacing a shield with this dagger removes your usual shield block. It is a light parry tool, but you still need to avoid attacks that cannot be parried.
  • Critical rating: The critical rating is 131, the same as the ordinary Dagger. The name describes its parry action; it does not give every riposte a higher damage multiplier than other daggers.
  • Attacks: The opening one-handed strong attack thrusts, while light attacks slash. It has no built-in bleed. In the right hand it works as an ordinary attacking dagger, but the special parry is a left-hand action.
  • Upgrades and enchantments: Normal reinforcement reaches +15. Normal, Raw and Crystal versions can use resins and weapon-enchantment spells. Magic and Enchanted versions add Intelligence scaling to magical damage; Divine and Occult use Faith. Magical and elemental versions cannot receive those temporary weapon coatings.
  • Boss forging: The Giant Blacksmith can change a normal +10 copy into the cursed Greatsword of Artorias with the Soul of Sif, Great Lord Greatsword with the Soul of Gwyn, or Abyss Greatsword with the Soul of Artorias. Keep a spare if you want to keep the dagger.
