Altar teaching

Undead Parish, Altar of Sunlight

Requirements

  • Meet the altar requirement: 25 Faith, reduced by 5 for each boss you help defeat while summoned into another player's world.
  1. After Taurus Demon, reach the long bridge guarded by the red Hellkite Dragon. Use the staircase halfway across the bridge to get below its flames, and kick down the ladder shortcut to the Undead Burg bonfire.
  2. Return to the bridge stairs and take cover in the corner nearest the dragon. When it leaves its perch to land on the bridge, run past it into the doorway beneath its perch and rest at the bonfire. You do not have to kill it.
  3. From the bonfire, step into the small open area beside the building and find the broken stone statue. This is the Altar of Sunlight.
  4. Pray at the altar once you meet its Faith requirement, then choose Learn gesture. Joining the Warrior of Sunlight covenant is a separate choice.
  • The bridge dragon can burn the approach. Use the stairs down to the lower bridge as cover rather than standing in its fire.

Platform-specific unlock

Nintendo Switch only

Requirements

  • Use a Solaire of Astora amiibo with the Switch version.
  1. Open the system settings inside the game and enable amiibo.
  2. Follow the displayed amiibo control prompt and scan Solaire on the controller's NFC reader to unlock Praise the Sun.

Notes

  • Motion: Stands tall with both arms held high and outward in a wide V.
  • Covenant choice: Meeting the altar requirement lets you learn the gesture without changing covenants. You do not need to earn a covenant rank or offer Sunlight Medals for it.
  • Cooperative requirement reduction: The reduction counts bosses you help another host defeat. Merely summoning help for your own boss fight does not lower your requirement.
  • Platform difference: The amiibo route is exclusive to Nintendo Switch. Use the altar route on PC and the other console versions; buying DLC is not required for this gesture.
