}In-game description
This secret rite allows bonfires to be
bolstered further with Kindling, so that
even more Estus can be collected.
Kindling was a sacred rite passed down
among clerics, but all Undead can imitate
the process, in the same manner that they
restore their Hollowing with humanity.
How peculiar that humans had found little
use for humanity until they turned Undead.
Where to find
Boss reward
Catacombs: Pinwheel
- From Firelink, cross the graveyard and descend the stone stairs into the Catacombs. Operate the bridge levers as you work downward.
- Defeat the nearby necromancers to stop their skeletons returning, or use a Divine weapon against those skeletons. Continue to the lowest Wheel Skeleton area.
- Cross to the passage leading to Pinwheel's fog gate. Enter the chamber and defeat Pinwheel to receive the Rite of Kindling.
- At a bonfire, reverse hollowing if necessary, then use held Humanity to kindle it beyond the ordinary ten-flask level.
Notes
- Higher flask count: Allows a bonfire to be kindled from ten Estus uses to fifteen, then twenty. Each additional kindling costs one held Humanity and requires human form.
- First kindling still costs Humanity: An ordinary five-flask bonfire first needs the usual kindling to ten. The Rite removes the ten-flask limit; it does not make any of the kindling steps free.
- Local bonfire upgrade: Kindling improves the refill from that particular bonfire. Fire Keeper Souls instead improve how much each Estus use heals.
- New Game Plus: The Rite is removed for the next journey, but previously kindled bonfires retain their kindling levels. Defeat Pinwheel again if you need to kindle additional bonfires beyond ten.
