Weapon behavior

Can strike with physical and fire damage, but is primarily a light source. Strength affects its small physical attack component, not illumination. It cannot be reinforced.

Reinforcement and comparison

Reduces blocked physical damage by 26%, magic by 8%, fire by 20% and lightning by 20%. Starts with 16 stability. Stability controls the stamina spent on a block, separately from health damage that gets through.

In-game description

Weapon type: Lantern
Attack type: Strike

Skull Lantern of the Catacombs necromancer.
Droops from his long beard locks.

This lantern alights the Tomb of the Giants,
Nito's light-devouring domain of death.
Also serves as a fire damage strike weapon.

Where to find

Corpse pickup

Tomb of the Giants

  1. Reach Patches near the first Tomb bonfire and the cliff marked by Prism Stones. Speak to him and inspect the edge to trigger his pit trick, or carefully drop into that same pit yourself.
  2. Loot the corpses at the bottom for Skull Lantern. Rhea is in this pit if her story has reached this encounter.
  3. To leave, follow the passage past the Bone Towers, climb the ladder and strike the illusory wall at the top. Return to the bonfire before continuing deeper.

Enemy drop

Catacombs

  1. Defeat the fire-casting necromancers that control the skeleton groups and inspect their drops. The first is beside the first Catacombs bonfire.
  2. Necromancers do not respawn, so resting does not provide an ordinary repeated farm. The corpse in Patches's pit is a direct alternative.

Notes

  • Requirements and weight: Requires 5 Strength and weighs 0.5.
  • Blocking at base reinforcement: Reduces blocked physical damage by 26%, magic by 8%, fire by 20% and lightning by 20%. Starts with 16 stability. Stability controls the stamina spent on a block, separately from health damage that gets through.
  • Using the light: Equip it in the left hand and hold the guard button to raise the light. Merely carrying it in an inactive slot does not illuminate the tomb. Raising it occupies the hand you would otherwise use for a shield.
  • Lantern landmarks: Its light reveals blue route markers in the Tomb of the Giants. It can also open the light-sealed walls in Oolacile Township.
  • Attack and reinforcement: Can strike with physical and fire damage, but is primarily a light source. Strength affects its small physical attack component, not illumination. It cannot be reinforced.
  • Crow trade: One Skull Lantern can be traded at the small Asylum nest for Ring of Fog. The trade consumes it, so retain a light source before exchanging your only lantern.
