Quest branches and services
These branches include alternatives. Check the requirements for each before acting.
Catacombs
Catacombs
Requirements: Patches is still in his earlier bridge location.
What to do: Approach his bridge encounter carefully. His bridge trap is an earlier meeting, not the required reward interaction for Rhea's rescue.
Result: He can later appear in the Tomb of the Giants.
Consequences and cutoffs: Keep him alive if you want his later merchant route.
Catacombs
Bridge Compensation
Requirements: Survive his bridge trick while preserving friendly dialogue.
What to do: When he asks whether his trick caused trouble, answer yes for one Humanity.
Result: Receive the earlier compensation gift.
Consequences and cutoffs: This question is separate from the cleric question and the later forgiveness question.
Tomb of the Giants
Pit
Requirements: Patches is alive and not hostile.
What to do: Tell him you are not a cleric. After his trap, return and finish the conversation.
Result: You can preserve his later merchant branch.
Consequences and cutoffs: Claiming to be a cleric leads to hostility. Your answer matters, not your starting class.
Tomb of the Giants
Pit Compensation
Requirements: Survive the pit trap and return while Patches is friendly.
What to do: Refuse his request for forgiveness to receive Twin Humanities; accepting his apology instead makes him mark the route with prism stones.
Result: The answer changes the immediate gift or guidance.
Consequences and cutoffs: Finish the conversation and keep him friendly for the later merchant route.
Tomb of the Giants
Cleric Answer
Requirements: Patches asks whether you are a cleric.
What to do: Answer no to preserve the friendly path. After surviving his pit trap, return and finish his apology conversation.
Result: With Nito defeated, he can become a Firelink merchant.
Consequences and cutoffs: Answering yes causes hostility regardless of your actual starting class.
Firelink Shrine
Merchant
Requirements: Patches' Tomb dialogue is complete, he is not hostile, and Nito is dead.
What to do: Look beside the wall near the Catacombs approach.
Result: His Firelink shop is available.
