In-game description

Online play item.
Lure phantoms from other worlds.
(Only Covenanter can use the item while Hollows cannot)

The dreadful Eyes of Death spread disaster
across neighboring worlds. Phantoms lured
to the host world may end up as victims,
allowing the Eyes of Death to multiply,
and leading to further proliferation of bane.

Catacombs: Titanite Demon corridor

  1. Descend from Firelink's graveyard into the Catacombs. Use the bridge switches to reach the lower stone corridors and find the long passage occupied by a Titanite Demon.
  2. Pass the demon carefully and collect three Eyes of Death from the corpse behind it. The partly open coffin in the same passage is the route to Nito's covenant chamber.
  3. Carry at least one Eye of Death, nestle in that coffin and wait for transport. Speak at Nito's sarcophagus to join Gravelord Servant.
  • Nito must be alive to join or offer Eyes of Death. The coffin visit is separate from his boss encounter.

Tomb of the Giants: entrance ledge

  1. Defeat Pinwheel and climb out toward the Tomb of the Giants. Use a light source to see the first coffin slides and the surrounding drops.
  2. After the first coffin, inspect the lower ledge to the left and descend carefully to its corpse for three Eyes of Death. Collect these before continuing deeper into the tomb.

Repeatable enemy drop

Depths / Great Hollow

  1. In the Depths, descend into the lower sewer passages occupied by Basilisks. Alternatively, find them on the lower branches of the Great Hollow beneath Blighttown.
  2. Defeat Basilisks and collect any Eyes of Death they drop. Return to a bonfire to reset them and repeat.
  • Their clouds cause curse rather than ordinary poison. Move out before the curse meter fills.

Requirements

  • Keep Patches alive and friendly through his Tomb encounter.
  1. Survive Patches' trap in the Tomb of the Giants. Answer no to his question about being a cleric, return from the pit and settle the encounter without making him hostile.
  2. Defeat Nito, then find Patches on the graveyard side of Firelink Shrine and open his shop.
  3. Buy Eye of Death from Patches.

Gravelord invasion reward

Eligible online area

  1. Join Gravelord Servant and use an Eye of Death in an eligible area while human, with its boss alive and no phantoms already present.
  2. Defeat an opponent who invades through your Gravelord sign to receive an Eye of Death. Ordinary red invasions are not this reward route.

Notes

  • Two ways to spend it: Offer Eyes of Death to Nito for covenant progress, or consume one to activate the Gravelord multiplayer effect. Merely carrying one to use the coffin does not require spending an offering.
  • Rank rewards: The cumulative offering thresholds are ten, thirty and eighty. Ten grants Gravelord Greatsword Dance; higher ranks strengthen the covenant miracles rather than giving another sword.
  • Gravelord restrictions: You must belong to Gravelord Servant and be human to activate the item. You cannot begin with summoned phantoms present, and ordinary cooperative summoning is unavailable while its effect is active.
  • New Game Plus distinction: The extra Gravelord enemy phantoms appear in affected worlds on NG+ and later journeys. A first-journey player seeing a Gravelord sign does not mean those extra enemies must have spawned.
  • Patches's stock: Patches has three per journey, not an unlimited farming supply. His Firelink shop opens after his Tomb encounter and Nito's defeat, so buy earlier Eyes elsewhere if you still need to rank up with Nito.
