Valley of Drakes

Requirements

  • Reach the Undead Dragon in the Valley of Drakes.
  1. For the early Master Key route, descend from Firelink to New Londo, climb the tower stairs and open the small valley gate. Cross the wooden bridge toward Blighttown, then follow the cliffside valley route to the huge sleeping dragon.
  2. Loot the corpse by the dragon's head and arm for Astora's Straight Sword. The neighboring treasure includes the Dragon Crest Shield. Taking the loot can wake the dragon, so leave room to retreat from its poison breath and claw.
  3. Without the early gate key, the Valley can be reached through the Darkroot Basin cave lift or from Blighttown's waterwheel exit. Killing the dragon first is optional, not a requirement for the pickup.

Notes

  • Requirements and weight: Requires 10 Strength, 10 Dexterity, 14 Faith and weighs 3.
  • Split scaling: Strength and Dexterity scale physical damage; Faith scales magical damage. Intelligence does not supply that magical scaling. The weapon still requires 14 Faith to use properly.
  • Divine effect: Can stop susceptible Catacombs skeletons from reviving after a killing blow. This does not grant the ability to hit New Londo ghosts without a curse.
  • Early use: The pickup can be reached early, but physical and magical damage each meet their corresponding target defense. The combined displayed attack is not a direct damage prediction.
  • Reinforcement and buffs: Reinforce to +5 with Twinkling Titanite. There are no normal or elemental conversion branches. Cannot use resins or weapon-enchantment spells.
