Reinforcement and comparison

Starts with 200 physical attack and gains no damage from Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence or Faith. Meeting the requirements lets you use it properly; further attribute levels do not increase its attack rating.

Reinforce to +5 with Dragon Scales. It cannot use resins or weapon-enchantment spells and has no normal +15 or elemental conversion paths.

In-game description

Weapon type: Straight Sword
Attack type: Regular

This sword, one of the rare dragon weapons,
is formed by a drake's tail. Drakes are
seen as undeveloped imitators of the dragons,
but in they are likely their distant kin.
The sword is imbued with a mystical power,
to be released when held with both hands.

Where to find

Tail cut

Undead Burg

Requirements

  • Reach the Hellkite bridge.
  • Equip a usable bow and enough arrows for repeated tail shots.
  1. After the Taurus Demon, reach the long bridge above the Undead Burg bonfire. The Hellkite guards its far end. Use the stairs halfway across to get below the bridge and kick down the ladder shortcut to the bonfire.
  2. From the room above the shortcut ladder, use the opening onto the bridge's underside. Defeat the soldiers on the lower walkway and approach its exposed edge.
  3. Look toward the dragon's end of the bridge and aim at the dangling tail. Keep hitting the tail itself until it is severed. The Drake Sword is awarded automatically; killing the dragon is unnecessary.
  • Arrow damage and the number of shots depend on your equipment, stats and distance. Bring spare arrows rather than relying on a fixed shot count. Killing the dragon before cutting the tail loses this tail reward for the journey.

Notes

  • Requirements and weight: Requires 16 Strength, 10 Dexterity and weighs 6.0.
  • No attribute scaling: Starts with 200 physical attack and gains no damage from Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence or Faith. Meeting the requirements lets you use it properly; further attribute levels do not increase its attack rating.
  • Shockwave: The two-handed strong attack releases a shockwave and spends 30 durability. The normal maximum durability is 360, so repeated special attacks require repairs.
  • Reinforcement and buffs: Reinforce to +5 with Dragon Scales. It cannot use resins or weapon-enchantment spells and has no normal +15 or elemental conversion paths.
  • Long-term limits: Its high starting attack is useful early, but upgrading it spends Dragon Scales without adding attribute scaling. Ordinary weapons can gain damage from both reinforcement and your developing stats.
