Where to find

Merchant purchase

Undead Burg

Cost: 500 Souls · Stock: ∞

Requirements

  • Reach Firelink Shrine after leaving the Undead Asylum.
  • Keep the male Undead Merchant alive and friendly.
  1. If you have not reached Undead Burg yet, leave Firelink Shrine by the stairs climbing toward the large stone bridge. Fight past the Hollows on the hillside and enter the water passage inside the bridge. Watch for the rat near the entrance, then follow the passage to the exit and stairs into Undead Burg.
  2. Follow the route through the buildings and up onto the rampart. Clear the Hollows and the crossbow soldier on the small tower, then enter the bonfire room beside that tower. Rest here before looking for the merchant.
  3. Leave the room and clear the nearby crossbow soldier and the Hollows on the lower platform. If you rested, these enemies will have returned.
  4. Look for the short walkway to a separate rooftop guarded by two soldiers with spears and shields. Cross to that roof and deal with both soldiers.
  5. Break the wooden crates around the stair opening on the rooftop, then go downstairs. Check the room for the Hollow hiding behind the furniture before stopping to shop.
  6. Go through the doorway onto the outside ledge. Speak to the seated merchant and buy Leather Gauntlets from his armor inventory.
  • Keep attacks away from the merchant. Killing him permanently removes this shop for the current playthrough.

Enemy drop

Oolacile Township

Requirements

  • Reach the Oolacile Township Dungeon bonfire, below the lift guarded by the Chained Prisoner.
  1. From the dungeon bonfire, go back along the corridor to the lift. Ride it up and enter the hall above.
  2. Defeat the Chained Prisoner and collect any dropped items. It can drop Leather Gauntlets, but the piece is not guaranteed.
  • His ball-and-chain swings cover a wide area and can drain a blocking character's stamina.
  • Buying from the Burg merchant is a much earlier, guaranteed alternative.

Notes

  • Which leather gloves these are: These are the hand piece of the Chain Set. They are separate from Hard Leather Gauntlets and the Hunter's Leather Gloves, despite the similar names.
  • Weight and poise: Weigh 3.6 and contribute 5 poise. Their weight is greater than Chain Helm's 3.0 even though both contribute the same amount of poise, so fitting the whole outfit may change your equipment-load bracket.
  • Physical defenses: Their physical defense favors slash damage. They add to the defenses from your other armor and character attributes; equipping them does not give a shield-style block percentage.
  • Elemental limits: At base level they add 10 magic, 8 fire and 4 lightning defense, plus no curse resistance. The leather name does not grant a casting-stat bonus.
  • Acquisition distinction: The Burg merchant sells this exact pair individually. The Chained Prisoner is another possible source for Chain Set pieces; do not use the separate Hard Leather Set pickup as the route for these gloves.
  • Reinforcement: Uses ordinary Titanite reinforcement up to +10. Upgrades improve the supported defenses and status resistances, but do not increase poise or lower equipment weight. You do not need an armor ember to cross +5.
  • Choosing pieces: You can mix this piece with other armor. The full Chain outfit weighs 17.2 and contributes 26 poise before adding weapons and shields. Include all equipped gear when keeping within your preferred movement threshold.
