In-game description

Gauntlets of the dragonslayer Ornstein, who
guards the cathedral in the forsaken city of
Anor Londo.

Ornstein is believed to be the captain of the
Four Knights. His golden lion gauntlets are
imbued with the power of lightning and should
provide good protection against it.

Merchant purchase

Depths / Firelink Shrine

Cost: 6000 Souls · Stock: 1

Requirements

  • Keep Domhnall of Zena alive and friendly.
  • Defeat Smough first, then defeat the empowered Ornstein in the second phase.
  1. His first shop is in the Depths, beside the large door leading to Blighttown and near the approach to the Gaping Dragon arena.
  2. After both Bells of Awakening have been rung, return to Firelink Shrine. Walk up the aqueduct route toward Undead Burg and look beneath it for his seated figure. Carefully jump from the approach onto his ledge.
  3. Open the purchase menu and buy Ornstein's Gauntlets.

Notes

  • Weight and poise: Equips on the hands, weighs 4 and provides 6 poise. Poise helps resist stagger; it does not reduce health damage.
  • Physical protection: Provides 29 normal physical defense at base reinforcement. Its strongest physical protection at this level is against slash damage. Different attack types use different physical defenses.
  • Protection: At base reinforcement, its elemental defense is 12 magic, 16 fire, 14 lightning. Fire is its strongest elemental defense at this level. Defense values are not percentages of incoming damage blocked.
  • Status resistance: Adds 12 bleed, 6 poison and 6 curse resistance at base reinforcement. These help resist buildup; they do not cure an existing status.
  • Reinforcement: Cannot be reinforced. Its listed protection is not a starting point for a later +5 or +10 version.
  • Boss order: Only the boss defeated second unlocks their armor for this journey. If empowered Smough was the final opponent, this outfit waits until a later journey with the opposite order.
  • Separate ring: Ornstein's armor does not include the Leo Ring's thrust-counterattack effect. The ring is a separate reward.
