Tomb of the Giants to Firelink Shrine

Requirements

  • Keep Patches alive and friendly.
  • Complete the friendly Tomb conversation and defeat Gravelord Nito.
  1. Find Patches near the first bonfire in the Tomb of the Giants. If he asks whether you are a cleric, answer No, including when your actual starting class is Cleric.
  2. Follow his treasure conversation at the ledge. After the kick into the pit, find the passage out of the room, climb the ladder and pass through the hidden wall to return to the upper path.
  3. Speak to Patches again and finish the conversation. Either answer to his request for forgiveness can preserve his friendly merchant route.
  4. Once you have placed the Lordvessel and defeated Nito, return to Firelink Shrine. Find Patches beside the wall at the graveyard entrance.
  5. Speak to him there and choose Learn gesture from his merchant menu.
  • Calling yourself a cleric can make Patches hostile. Killing him prevents this teaching opportunity.

Notes

  • Motion: Drops to the knees and bows forward in a pleading pose.
  • Correct stage: The Catacombs bridge encounter and the Tomb trick do not themselves teach Prostration. Patches teaches it after becoming a Firelink merchant.
  • Free teaching: You do not need to buy his equipment, pay him or choose forgiveness specifically to learn the gesture.
