Secret treasure of Arstor, the Earl of Carim.
Reduces curse build-up and breaks curse.

Humans are helpless against curses,
and can only redirect their influence.
The Purging Stone does not dispel curses,
but receives them as a surrogate. The stone
itself was once a person or some other being.

Firelink aqueduct / Lower Undead Burg

Requirements

  • Keep the female Undead Merchant alive and friendly.
  1. Use the Basement Key from Undead Parish to open the Lower Burg descent near the Hellkite bridge. Continue past the dogs and assassin ambushes toward the Capra Demon fog.
  2. Take the stairs beside that fog down toward the Depths entrance. Follow the adjoining tower stairs up to the aqueduct passage.
  3. Speak through the bars to the merchant, then open the nearby shortcut door back toward Firelink. Her stall can be revisited through that shortcut.
  4. Buy Purging Stone from the female Undead Merchant's purchase menu.

Undead Parish bell tower

Requirements

  • Keep Oswald alive and friendly.
  1. Defeat the Bell Gargoyles on the church roof and ring the Bell of Awakening.
  2. Climb back down into the tower and speak to Oswald, the black-clothed pardoner waiting below the bell. Open his purchase menu.
  3. Buy Purging Stone from Oswald of Carim's purchase menu.

Repeatable enemy drop

Ash Lake / Crystal Cave

  1. Reach the giant clam enemies in Ash Lake below the Great Hollow, or the group before Seath's arena in Crystal Cave.
  2. Defeat the Man-Eater Shells and collect their drops. They can drop Purging Stones as well as Twinkling Titanite; neither result is promised on every kill.

Gift or encounter reward

Northern Undead Asylum crow trade

  1. Return to the Asylum through the large crow's nest above Firelink. Walk to the separate small nest on the cliffside path.
  2. Leave one Cracked Red Eye Orb in the small nest, quit to the title screen and reload. Collect two Purging Stones. This offering can be traded once per journey.

Notes

  • Curse cure: Removes an existing curse and restores the maximum HP lost to that curse. It does not prevent the next curse buildup from filling.
  • Supply: Oswald's cheaper stock is limited to five. The female Undead Merchant has a more expensive unlimited supply.
  • Alternative service: Ingward can remove a curse in exchange for carried Humanity. This is a service rather than a use of the stone.
