}In-game description
Soul of Lord Gwyn's Knight Artorias,
who was consumed by the Abyss.
The legend that Artorias repelled the Abyss
only told half of the story.
It seems that he was defeated, and his
honor preserved, by some unsung hero,
who is the true victor over the Abyss.
Where to find
Gift or encounter reward
Royal Wood
- Free Dusk from the golden golem behind Darkroot Basin's Hydra, then obtain the Broken Pendant from the first Crystal Golem in the Duke's Archives.
- Return to the cave behind the Hydra and use the dark portal to enter Oolacile.
- Defeat Sanctuary Guardian, pass the Sanctuary bonfire and continue through Royal Wood to the circular arena before Oolacile Township.
- Defeat Knight Artorias and retain his soul. Revisit the arena afterward to find Ciaran during her appearance.
Notes
- Consume or keep: Using the item grants 16,000 souls and destroys it. This is separate from the souls credited immediately for defeating the boss.
- Reward choices: Make Abyss Greatsword from a compatible normal +10 blade such as Dagger. Alternatively, give the soul to Ciaran for Gold Tracer and Dark Silver Tracer. That trade consumes the same soul needed for the sword.
- Frampt value: Feeding it to Kingseeker Frampt gives 10,000 souls, which is less than consuming it. Feeding also destroys the item.
- Forging: At Anor Londo's Giant Blacksmith, choose Modify Equipment with this soul and the required base equipment. A normal +10 base needs Andre's Large Ember modification from +5 to +6 first. Forging spends the soul, the base item and 5,000 Souls.
- Ciaran choice: Killing Ciaran can give her weapons without spending the soul, but ends her appearance permanently for the journey. Her peaceful exchange and the forging recipe compete for one copy.
