In-game description

Limb of the victim of a curse.
Temporary curse allows engagement with ghosts.

The only way to fight back against ghosts,
who are cursed beings, is to become cursed
oneself. The safest method, however dreadful,
is to cut off an arm of the dead.

Requirements

  • Keep the female Undead Merchant alive and friendly.
  1. Use the Basement Key from Undead Parish to open the Lower Burg descent near the Hellkite bridge. Continue past the dogs and assassin ambushes toward the Capra Demon fog.
  2. Take the stairs beside that fog down toward the Depths entrance. Follow the adjoining tower stairs up to the aqueduct passage.
  3. Speak through the bars to the merchant, then open the nearby shortcut door back toward Firelink. Her stall can be revisited through that shortcut.
  4. Buy Transient Curse from the female Undead Merchant's purchase menu.

New Londo Ruins

Cost: 1000 Souls · Stock: ∞

Requirements

  • Keep Ingward alive and friendly.
  1. From Firelink, ride the lift down to New Londo and cross the wooden bridges into the flooded ruins. Use a Transient Curse or another valid way to fight ghosts on the approach.
  2. Progress through the flooded buildings to the large ghost house. Climb the ladder inside its chimney to the roof and speak to the red-robed Ingward.
  3. Open his shop. After the Four Kings are defeated and his dialogue is advanced, he can move to Firelink instead.
  4. Buy Transient Curse from Ingward's purchase menu.

  1. Take the lift below Anastacia's cell at Firelink and descend the steps toward the first wooden bridge into New Londo.
  2. Before crossing into the ghost area, break the pot containing a corpse near the passive Hollow and collect the Transient Curses.

Repeatable enemy drop

  1. Use a Transient Curse or another valid way to damage ghosts, then cross the wooden bridges into the upper ruins.
  2. Defeat and loot ghosts along the upper building route. They can drop more Transient Curses, allowing the route to replenish your supply.

Notes

  • Ghost interaction: For five minutes, lets ordinary weapons damage ghosts and lets suitable equipment interact with their attacks. It does not give invulnerability or make every attack safe to block.
  • Different from curse: Does not halve your maximum HP or inflict the permanent curse status. A Purging Stone is not needed to remove it; the effect expires.
  • Buff conflicts: Uses the personal-buff group. Incompatible spells and items can replace it, leaving you unable to damage ghosts with an ordinary weapon. It does not stack with Green Blossom, Power Within or Elizabeth's Mushroom.
