}In-game description
Chainmail leggings of thin interlinking
rings of steel. It is common throughout the
human world since it can be easily produced,
is not too heavy, and offers good defense.
Knights may favor flashy armor, but for
warriors on the battlefield, anything is
fine as long as it keeps them alive.
Where to find
Merchant purchase
Undead Burg
Cost: 500 Souls · Stock: ∞
Requirements
- Reach Firelink Shrine after leaving the Undead Asylum.
- Keep the male Undead Merchant alive and friendly.
- If you have not reached Undead Burg yet, leave Firelink Shrine by the stairs climbing toward the large stone bridge. Fight past the Hollows on the hillside and enter the water passage inside the bridge. Watch for the rat near the entrance, then follow the passage to the exit and stairs into Undead Burg.
- Follow the route through the buildings and up onto the rampart. Clear the Hollows and the crossbow soldier on the small tower, then enter the bonfire room beside that tower. Rest here before looking for the merchant.
- Leave the room and clear the nearby crossbow soldier and the Hollows on the lower platform. If you rested, these enemies will have returned.
- Look for the short walkway to a separate rooftop guarded by two soldiers with spears and shields. Cross to that roof and deal with both soldiers.
- Break the wooden crates around the stair opening on the rooftop, then go downstairs. Check the room for the Hollow hiding behind the furniture before stopping to shop.
- Go through the doorway onto the outside ledge. Speak to the seated merchant and buy Chain Leggings from his armor inventory.
- Keep attacks away from the merchant. Killing him permanently removes this shop for the current playthrough.
Enemy drop
Oolacile Township
Requirements
- Reach the Oolacile Township Dungeon bonfire, below the lift guarded by the Chained Prisoner.
- From the dungeon bonfire, go back along the corridor to the lift. Ride it up and enter the hall above.
- Defeat the Chained Prisoner and collect any dropped items. It can drop Chain Leggings, but the piece is not guaranteed.
- His ball-and-chain swings cover a wide area and can drain a blocking character's stamina.
- Buying from the Burg merchant is a much earlier, guaranteed alternative.
Notes
- Weight and poise: The leg piece weighs 4.6 and contributes 7 poise. Replacing lighter trousers with these can change your total equipment load even when the rest of your outfit stays the same.
- Physical defenses: Physical defense favors slash damage over strike and thrust. The unreinforced piece adds 18 normal physical defense before its damage-type adjustments.
- Elemental limits: Adds 14 magic, 12 fire and 5 lightning defense at base level. It adds no curse resistance, so wearing the matching outfit will not solve curse buildup by itself.
- Completing the outfit: Goes with Chain Helm, Chain Armor and Leather Gauntlets. Each piece is a separate merchant purchase. The complete unreinforced outfit weighs 17.2 and contributes 26 poise, before adding weapons, shields or rings.
- Other source: The Chained Prisoner near the Oolacile Township descent into the Chasm of the Abyss can drop Chain Set pieces. The early merchant purchase is available without entering that DLC area.
- Reinforcement: Uses ordinary Titanite reinforcement up to +10. Upgrades improve the supported defenses and status resistances, but do not increase poise or lower equipment weight. You do not need an armor ember to cross +5.
- Choosing pieces: You can mix this piece with other armor. The full Chain outfit weighs 17.2 and contributes 26 poise before adding weapons and shields. Include all equipped gear when keeping within your preferred movement threshold.
