life itself, attainable by transformation
into an ancient dragon. This rite is only one
step, but it cannot be reversed until death.

Ash Lake: Stone Dragon
- From the Blighttown swamp bonfire, head toward the opposite end of the swamp, away from Quelaag's mound, and climb the large root leading into the hollow tree.
- Open the chest in the tree, then strike the wall behind it. Strike the second concealed wall beyond the next chest to reveal the Great Hollow.
- Descend the Great Hollow using the branches and ladders. Keep away from the Basilisks' curse clouds and continue through the mushroom-filled bottom to Ash Lake.
- Follow the narrow beach to its far end, passing the Hydra and the hollow trees. Approach the enormous Stone Dragon and pray at it to join Path of the Dragon.
- Without the Lordvessel, resting at the bottom means climbing back through the Great Hollow to leave. The deep water beside the beach is a fatal drop.
Notes
- Head transformation: Remove your helmet before using the stone. It changes your head into a dragon head and prevents wearing a helmet until death ends the transformation.
- Fire breath: After transforming, hold the item-use button with the stone selected to breathe fire. Breathing drains stamina, so releasing the button leaves stamina available to escape or defend.
- Covenant ranks: Offering ten, thirty and eighty Dragon Scales strengthens the breath through the Path of the Dragon ranks. Upgrading a Pyromancy Flame does not upgrade this item.
- Head restriction: A visible parasite egg prevents the head transformation. Cure the infection before trying to use the stone.
- Reuse and leaving: The stone is reusable and remains usable after leaving Path of the Dragon. Reduced covenant progress can reduce its benefit. It does not let you freely switch back to a helmet during the same life.
