Weapon behavior

See the item notes for verified weapon behavior.

Reinforcement and comparison

Requires 7 Strength and 13 Dexterity, with a weight of 1.5. Its normal physical damage scales much more strongly with Dexterity than Strength, starting at E Strength and B Dexterity.

Normal reinforcement reaches +15. Andre needs the Large Ember for +5 to +6 and the Very Large Ember for +10 to +11. Normal, Raw and Crystal versions can use resins and weapon-enchantment spells. Crystal reinforcement prevents ordinary repairs.

Magic and Enchanted add magical damage with Intelligence scaling; Divine and Occult use Faith. Fire and Lightning remove attribute scaling, while Chaos gains damage from held Humanity up to 10. These magical and elemental versions cannot receive temporary weapon coatings.

In-game description

Weapon type: Curved Sword
Attack type: Slash

Small curved sword. Each hit inflicts little
damage, but fluid chain attacks are deadly.

The scimitar's sharp slashing attacks are
effective against cloth and flesh, but not
against metal armor or tough scales.

Where to find

Starting equipment

Northern Undead Asylum

Requirements

  • Choose Wanderer when creating the character.
  1. Wanderer has Scimitar as starting equipment. Collect your starting gear during the Undead Asylum tutorial.

Merchant purchase

Undead Burg

Cost: 600 Souls · Stock: ∞

Requirements

  • Reach Firelink Shrine after leaving the Undead Asylum.
  • Keep the male Undead Merchant alive and friendly.
  1. If you have not reached Undead Burg yet, leave Firelink Shrine by the stairs climbing toward the large stone bridge. Fight past the Hollows on the hillside and enter the water passage inside the bridge. Watch for the rat near the entrance, then follow the passage to the exit and stairs into Undead Burg.
  2. Follow the route through the buildings and up onto the rampart. Clear the Hollows and the crossbow soldier on the small tower, then enter the bonfire room beside that tower. Rest here before looking for the merchant.
  3. Leave the room and clear the nearby crossbow soldier and the Hollows on the lower platform. If you rested, these enemies will have returned.
  4. Look for the short walkway to a separate rooftop guarded by two soldiers with spears and shields. Cross to that roof and deal with both soldiers.
  5. Break the wooden crates around the stair opening on the rooftop, then go downstairs. Check the room for the Hollow hiding behind the furniture before stopping to shop.
  6. Go through the doorway leading outside onto the narrow ledge. Speak to the seated merchant and buy Scimitar from his weapon inventory.
  • Keep attacks away from the merchant. Killing him permanently removes this shop for the current playthrough.

Enemy drop

Firelink cemetery and Catacombs

  1. From Firelink bonfire, pass through the ruins toward the cemetery. Find the small skeletons carrying Scimitars, rather than the longer, wider Falchions.
  2. Defeat the correct skeletons and inspect their loot. Cemetery skeletons are not maintained by a necromancer, so resting at Firelink provides a repeatable route.
  3. The same weapon variant occurs in the Catacombs. There, kill its controlling necromancer or finish the skeleton with a Divine weapon to stop it reassembling. Necromancers stay dead; resting still resets the ordinary skeletons.
  • Early skeletons can be dangerous for a new character. The merchant purchase avoids this fight and random drop.

Notes

  • Requirements and scaling: Requires 7 Strength and 13 Dexterity, with a weight of 1.5. Its normal physical damage scales much more strongly with Dexterity than Strength, starting at E Strength and B Dexterity.
  • Retreating slash: Forward plus light attack performs a slash followed by a backward flip instead of a kick. It can move you away while attacking, but it does not replace a kick for breaking a shield guard.
  • Offhand parry: It can parry when equipped in the left hand. In the right hand, its light attacks provide a series of close-range slashes, and its strong attack opens with an overhead double slash.
  • Enemy bleed does not transfer: Skeletons can cause bleed with their Scimitars, but the normal player weapon has no inherent bleed effect. Picking up the enemy's weapon does not give you that enemy-specific property.
  • Other copies: Wanderer starts with this weapon. Scimitar-wielding skeletons can also drop it; the visually similar Falchion skeletons have a different weapon drop. Buying a copy avoids fighting through skeletons for a random reward.
  • Reinforcement and weapon buffs: Normal reinforcement reaches +15. Andre needs the Large Ember for +5 to +6 and the Very Large Ember for +10 to +11. Normal, Raw and Crystal versions can use resins and weapon-enchantment spells. Crystal reinforcement prevents ordinary repairs.
  • Other upgrade paths: Magic and Enchanted add magical damage with Intelligence scaling; Divine and Occult use Faith. Fire and Lightning remove attribute scaling, while Chaos gains damage from held Humanity up to 10. These magical and elemental versions cannot receive temporary weapon coatings.
  • Boss forging: A normal Scimitar +10 is a compatible source for Quelaag's Furysword with Soul of Quelaag. Have the Giant Blacksmith perform the conversion. The source weapon and soul are consumed.
