Weapon behavior

Strength scaling affects shield attack damage, not its damage-blocking percentages. Extra Strength does not improve stability once the requirements are met.

Has 85% fire reduction and complete physical protection, but only 20% magic reduction. Crest Shield has much stronger magic protection; the two similar names refer to different shields.

Reinforcement and comparison

Reduces blocked physical damage by 100%, magic by 20%, fire by 85% and lightning by 45%. Starts with 55 stability. Stability controls the stamina spent on a block, separately from health damage that gets through.

Reinforce to +5 with Twinkling Titanite. On this path, stability rises from 55 to 66; the listed damage-blocking percentages stay unchanged. Has no elemental conversion paths.

Where to find

Corpse pickup

Valley of Drakes

Requirements

  • Open the New Londo shortcut gate, or approach the valley from Darkroot Basin.
  1. From Firelink, take the lift to New Londo, then climb the tower stairs to the small Valley of Drakes gate. Open it with the Master Key or Key to New Londo Ruins.
  2. Cross the wooden bridge and follow the narrow cliff path toward the resting Undead Dragon. The equipment corpses lie around its head and right arm.
  3. Collect the shield and retreat along the cliff. Entering the equipment area wakes the dragon; killing it first is an option, not a pickup requirement.
  • The waking dragon and cliff edge make a hurried pickup dangerous. Do not stop beside its head to inspect your inventory.

Notes

  • Requirements and weight: Requires 10 Strength and weighs 3.
  • Blocking at base reinforcement: Reduces blocked physical damage by 100%, magic by 20%, fire by 85% and lightning by 45%. Starts with 55 stability. Stability controls the stamina spent on a block, separately from health damage that gets through.
  • Parrying: Can parry with the left-hand strong input. A successful parry opens an eligible enemy to a riposte with your attacking weapon; it does not make every attack parryable.
  • Reinforcement: Reinforce to +5 with Twinkling Titanite. On this path, stability rises from 55 to 66; the listed damage-blocking percentages stay unchanged. Has no elemental conversion paths.
  • Attack scaling: Strength scaling affects shield attack damage, not its damage-blocking percentages. Extra Strength does not improve stability once the requirements are met.
  • Temporary shield spells: Magic Shield and Strong Magic Shield can temporarily strengthen the left-hand guard when cast with a catalyst in the right hand. They replace one another, and two-handing the other weapon removes the shield enchantment. These are different from resins and melee weapon-enchantment spells.
  • Fire specialization: Has 85% fire reduction and complete physical protection, but only 20% magic reduction. Crest Shield has much stronger magic protection; the two similar names refer to different shields.
