In-game description

The head of an Oolacile resident whose
humanity went wild after being devoured
by the Dark of Manus, Father of the Abyss.

The bloated head is fissured, the cracks
lined with innumerable tiny red eyeballs.
With a hard outside and mucous-filled
inside, no sane person could ever wear it.

Where to find

Enemy drop

Oolacile Township

  1. Defeat Artorias and rest at the Oolacile Township bonfire immediately beyond his arena. Follow the stairs down into the ruined settlement.
  2. Defeat the melee residents and collect any dropped headgear. Return to the bonfire to respawn the enemies and repeat for the missing drop.

Notes

  • Weight and poise: Equips on the head, weighs 2.5 and provides 0 poise. This piece does not help you withstand hits without staggering.
  • Physical protection: Provides 17 normal physical defense at base reinforcement. Its protection is the same against normal, strike, slash and thrust damage.
  • Protection: At base reinforcement, its elemental defense is 17 magic, 9 fire, 11 lightning. Magic is its strongest elemental defense at this level. Defense values are not percentages of incoming damage blocked.
  • Status resistance: Adds 16 bleed, 32 poison and 10 curse resistance at base reinforcement. These help resist buildup; they do not cure an existing status.
  • Reinforcement: Cannot be reinforced. Its listed protection is not a starting point for a later +5 or +10 version.
  • Correct enemy: Bloatheads drop this headgear. The ordinary and sorcerer heads are different items with separate enemy sources.
  • No transformation: Equips as head armor. It does not turn the character into a resident of Oolacile or grant their attacks.
  • DLC equipment: Found in the Artorias of the Abyss areas included in Dark Souls Remastered. It cannot be reinforced.
