Where to find
Treasure pickup
Demon Ruins: cooled lava field
Requirements
- Defeat Ceaseless Discharge.
- Defeat Ceaseless Discharge to drain the lava lake below its arena. Descend to the newly exposed field with the group of Taurus Demons.
- Look beyond that group toward the remaining lava at the back of the field. The ember lies on a corpse in the lava, not in a chest on the later Rockworm walkway.
- For a safer collection, first place the Lordvessel to open the lower boss route. Defeat Demon Firesage, take the stairs down beyond its arena and defeat Centipede Demon for the Orange Charred Ring. Equip it and return to this field.
- Draw away nearby Taurus Demons, cross the short lava stretch and collect the ember.
- Move back onto solid ground and heal as needed. The ring reduces lava damage rather than making you immune.
- Return to Vamos in the Catacombs. His workshop is reached by the successive drops below the broken spiral staircase. Speak to him at the anvil and give him the ember.
- An early lava run without the ring can be lethal. The Orange Charred Ring route avoids relying on a sacrificial pickup.
Notes
- Chaos conversion: Vamos can turn a compatible Fire +5 weapon into Chaos +0. Creating it costs one Red Titanite Chunk. Reaching Chaos +4 uses seven more chunks, and the final +5 upgrade takes one Red Titanite Slab.
- Humanity scaling: Chaos deals physical and fire damage and gains additional attack power from held Humanity up to 10 in the counter. Unused Humanity items in the inventory do not count. Strength and Dexterity requirements still have to be met even though the path removes their damage scaling.
- Separate from Fire +10: You do not need the Large Flame Ember to create Chaos from Fire +5. It unlocks the other continuation of the Fire path. Chaos weapons cannot use ordinary resins or weapon-enchantment spells.
- Hand-in and later journeys: Giving the ember unlocks the relevant modifications for that blacksmith for the rest of the journey. It is not spent once per weapon. Embers and their hand-ins reset in NG+, while already reinforced equipment keeps its upgrades. Collect the ember again if you want to make more weapons on that path.
- Using the unlock: Choose Modify Equipment for a path change or to cross its +5 or +10 limit. Ordinary reinforcement within an unlocked stage can be done at another blacksmith or with the Weapon Smithbox at a bonfire. Carrying an ember without giving it to the right smith does not unlock the modification.
