Requirements
- Obtain the Lordvessel, then descend from Firelink into New Londo. Cross the wooden bridges and work through the haunted ruins using Transient Curse or another way to fight ghosts.
- Climb the fireplace ladder inside the large ghost-filled building to reach Ingward on the roof. Speak to him for the Key to the Seal, then follow the outer route to the floodgate tower and operate its locked mechanism.
- After the water drains, descend to the lower ruins. Enter the first large building containing a Mass of Souls and Darkwraiths. Clear the room and locate the stairs beside its lift.
- Climb, follow the upper walkway around the building and take the further stairs to the chest holding the ember. You do not need to fight Four Kings for this pickup.
- Return to the Undead Parish bonfire opposite the church, then go downstairs to Andre's workshop. Speak to him while carrying the ember and agree to hand it over.
- Killing Ingward can provide his key before the Lordvessel, but removes a friendly merchant. His normal dialogue route avoids that sacrifice.
Notes
- Normal +15 access: Andre uses this ember to modify a compatible normal +10 weapon or shield to +11. It opens the final normal reinforcement stage through +15. It does not unlock Raw +6 or upgrade a unique +5 weapon.
- Materials: The +10 to +11 modification costs one Titanite Chunk. Reaching +14 from +10 uses seven chunks in total; the final +15 step uses one Titanite Slab.
- Earlier prerequisite: The Large Ember is still needed to build an ordinary weapon past +5 unless you already have a compatible normal +10 base. The Very Large Ember does not replace that earlier unlock.
- Hand-in and later journeys: Giving the ember unlocks the relevant modifications for that blacksmith for the rest of the journey. It is not spent once per weapon. Embers and their hand-ins reset in NG+, while already reinforced equipment keeps its upgrades. Collect the ember again if you want to make more weapons on that path.
- Using the unlock: Choose Modify Equipment for a path change or to cross its +5 or +10 limit. Ordinary reinforcement within an unlocked stage can be done at another blacksmith or with the Weapon Smithbox at a bonfire. Carrying an ember without giving it to the right smith does not unlock the modification.
