In-game description

Monster head resembling a treasure chest.
Once an ancient god, it is said this is the
symbol of shame imposed on a long lost clan,
exiled for the sin of avarice.

Wearing this slightly raises soul absorption
and item discovery, but also affects its
wearer with the curse of the branded.

Where to find

Enemy drop

Mimic treasure chests

  1. A checked early source is the chest in the Sen's Fortress boulder passage, beside the lift with spikes at its top. The chain on the floor curves toward you rather than away from the chest.
  2. Defeat the Mimic or throw a Lloyd's Talisman to put it to sleep and inspect its open mouth. Collect the Symbol if it appears alongside the normal treasure.
  3. If it does not appear, wake the Mimic without killing it and repeat the talisman method, or continue to the other Mimics in Anor Londo and the Duke's Archives.

Notes

  • Weight and poise: Equips on the head, weighs 10 and provides 15 poise. Poise helps resist stagger; it does not reduce health damage.
  • Physical protection: Provides 21 normal physical defense at base reinforcement. Its strongest physical protection at this level is against normal and slash and thrust damage. Different attack types use different physical defenses.
  • Protection: At base reinforcement, its elemental defense is 8 magic, 2 fire, 2 lightning. Magic is its strongest elemental defense at this level. Defense values are not percentages of incoming damage blocked.
  • Status resistance: Adds 10 bleed, 0 poison and 0 curse resistance at base reinforcement. These help resist buildup; they do not cure an existing status.
  • Reinforcement: Cannot be reinforced. Its listed protection is not a starting point for a later +5 or +10 version.
  • Stamina recovery: Wearing this piece slows stamina recovery by 1 point per second. This penalty is separate from the movement changes caused by total equipment load.
  • Soul gain: Increases souls received from defeated enemies by 20% while worn. This stacks with the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring, giving a combined 44% increase from the two items.
  • Item discovery: Adds 200 Item Discovery. This part does not stack with the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, but held Humanity can still contribute.
  • Health drain: Drains 5 HP each second, including while resting at a bonfire. Remove it before leaving the character idle; the drain can kill you.
  • Mimic progression: The ordinary-game Mimics provide a last-enemy guarantee if the Symbol has not already dropped. The DLC Mimics are not required for that base-game guarantee.
