Weapon behavior

Dexterity contributes more attack scaling than Strength on the normal path. These attributes improve shield attacks, not the percentages of damage blocked.

Reinforcement and comparison

Reduces blocked physical damage by 95%, magic by 30%, fire by 70% and lightning by 34%. Starts with 49 stability. Stability controls the stamina spent on a block, separately from health damage that gets through.

Reinforce to +15 with ordinary Titanite materials. Reinforcement improves attack damage, but stability stays at 49 and the normal damage-blocking percentages stay unchanged. Andre needs the Large Ember for +5 to +6 and the Very Large Ember for +10 to +11.

Where to find

Quest reward

Blighttown

Requirements

  • Keep Siegmeyer alive and advance his earlier encounters.
  • Carry 3 ordinary Purple Moss Clumps.
  1. Speak to Siegmeyer at Sen's Fortress and redirect the boulder mechanism away from his slope. Continue to his Anor Londo encounter.
  2. In Anor Londo, clear the three Silver Knights in the room beyond him and speak again for his reward. Return to Firelink, answer yes when he asks about opening the fortress gate, and finish his conversation.
  3. After he moves, reach the Blighttown swamp and search near the entrance to the giant-leech area, close to the route for Server.
  4. Wake him and agree to give him 3 Purple Moss Clumps. He consumes the moss and gives you Pierce Shield. Blooming Purple Moss is a different item.
  • Killing Siegmeyer is not an alternate way to obtain this shield. You do not need to finish the later Lost Izalith encounter to collect this earlier reward.

Notes

  • Requirements and weight: Requires 11 Strength, 14 Dexterity and weighs 3.5.
  • Blocking at base reinforcement: Reduces blocked physical damage by 95%, magic by 30%, fire by 70% and lightning by 34%. Starts with 49 stability. Stability controls the stamina spent on a block, separately from health damage that gets through.
  • Reinforcement: Reinforce to +15 with ordinary Titanite materials. Reinforcement improves attack damage, but stability stays at 49 and the normal damage-blocking percentages stay unchanged. Andre needs the Large Ember for +5 to +6 and the Very Large Ember for +10 to +11.
  • Conversion choices: Magic, Fire and Lightning conversions change attack damage and the corresponding elemental guarding instead of continuing the normal path's stability improvements. Divine adds Faith-scaled magical attack damage, rather than Faith-scaled blocking. Crystal can improve stability on suitable shields but sharply reduces durability and prevents ordinary repairs.
  • Attack scaling: Dexterity contributes more attack scaling than Strength on the normal path. These attributes improve shield attacks, not the percentages of damage blocked.
  • Temporary shield spells: Magic Shield and Strong Magic Shield can temporarily strengthen the left-hand guard when cast with a catalyst in the right hand. They replace one another, and two-handing the other weapon removes the shield enchantment. These are different from resins and melee weapon-enchantment spells.
  • Thrusting shield: The left-hand strong action attacks instead of parrying. Its pointed attack deals thrust damage, and the 14 Dexterity requirement matters alongside Strength.
  • Guarding cost: Blocks only 95% physical damage and has fixed 49 stability on the normal path. Raising its attack damage does not turn it into a stronger blocking shield.
